Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) urges consumers to dispose of expired drugs and medications in the safest manner possible. According to the agency, rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. and the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses are increasing. Reportedly, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine and the agency discourages the public from flushing medicine down the toilet or simply throwing it away. Unused or expired medication should be taken a to a collection site, all of which are free and anonymous.
