摘要

Falls represent significant hazards and exposures. During 2008, several high-profile incidents involving employees working at heights resulted in workplace fatalities. In 2006, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that fatal work injuries involving falls increased 5% after decreasing in 2005. Review of available 2007 BLS data indicates that falls from heights still account for many workplace fatalities and injuries.rnIn 2008, OSHA launched an enhanced enforcement program to address falls from heights. This program is expected to continue in 2009. While SH&E professionals recognize that OSHA compliance is the start of a high-caliber SH&E program, further enforcement of fall-related standards and rules has placed additional emphasis on the Z359 Fall Protection Code as the primary source for professional and technical guidance on fall arrest and fall protection management programs.
