Many types of nanoparticles and nano-materials are being used in commercial products, and potential medical applications are being introduced at a rapid pace. If controlled, this technology has great promise. If not controlled, harm may be caused to human health and the environment. This article discusses types and uses of nanomateri-als, and explores potential safety, health and environmental issues, as well as societal implications of these materials.
