We often tell government leaders that ASSE's members are a wealth of resources on whatever issue we are encouraging them to address. We urge them to call us―to use your expertise. Well, they are calling. Since last year, ASSE has entered into two alliances, and by the time this is published, yet another partnership agreement with a key federal safety and health agency will be in the works. Last year, we signed the first alliance agreement with OSHA, centered, as a beginning, on ergonomics. It was Assistant Secretary John Henshaw's idea, and ASSE happily put pen to paper. An SH&E professional himself, Henshaw saw that little could be achieved alone in the politically charged ergonomics arena. OSHA needed to reach out, get others to work with it to push the ideas of ergonomics out there. Henshaw also envisioned activities to help the agency heighten OSHA staff professionalism in safety and health. Another great idea.
