During a pandemic or other extraordinary events, hospitals and other healthcare facilities may need to be modified, existing buildings repurposed and temporary structures built. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has developed a guidance document to address fire and life safety challenges in temporary and traditional healthcare facilities. The fact sheet, entitled "Maintaining Safe Healthcare Facilities in Extraordinary Times," is designed to help healthcare engineers, designers and authorities having jurisdiction provide the safest levels of fire and life safety possible during extraordinary circumstances. The fact sheet details considerations for and alternatives to providing life safety for affected rooms, areas and structures.
