Effective safety training will always be based on a set of core fundamentals, including an un-derstanding and use of adult learning principles. That is true no matter what type of media is used to deliver the training (e.g., written, instructor-led, video, e-learning) and regardless of whether technology is used to assist training.ANSI/ASSE Z490.1 covers many of those safety training basics. That said, new technologies can help improve safety training at many stages, including during creation, delivery, evaluation and reporting. This article will examine a few tech-nologies that can play a role in improving safety training today and in the future. The forthcom-ing ANSI/ASSE Z490.2 standard on virtual EHS training will address issues related to many of the items discussed here.
