Others fall into the on-off, either-or variety, such as assuming that safety is binary, where people are either 100% OK on one hand or disabled on the other. In actuality, many may be working somewhat hampered due to a preexisting injury or in the midst of developing a cumulative trauma injury.While blind assumptions frequently pervade human interactions and planning, the best leaders revel in widening their eyes to hidden factors that affect performance (for more, see "Changing The Hidden Safety Culture," PSJ, September 2018, pp. 20-23). Strategic, make-it-happen activators know that what they can see they now have power to modify, adjust to, harness or fix; conversely, what they can't see they can't influence and can blind-side them (likely driving performance plateaus).
