Abby: Can you tell us a little bit about how you first got involved with safety?Maria: About 16 or 17 years ago, I was working as an organizational change manager at Alcoa, a heavy manufacturing organization, and the plant manager asked me to move into the EHS manager role. I was a little taken aback and asked why, and he said it was to drive a change in performance. Once I began, it was actually a neat application of organizational change and development. I liked the direct contact with people and the impact you can have on them. I began to tailor my continued education, training and development in the EHS realm, and I continued to thrive in the space.
