摘要

CPWR-The Center for Construction Research and Training has released a report investigating deaths and injuries involving elevators or escalators in the construction industry. Elevators and escalators pose risk to workers who install, clean, repair and maintain their workings as well as workers who perform construction work near open shafts. The report analyzes elevator-related fatalities in construction from 2003 to 2016. According to the report, elevator installers and repairers had the highest risk of elevator-related deaths in construction. It describes an increase in elevator-related fatalities over time, with the number of deaths doubling from 14 fatalities in 2003 to 28 fatalities in 2016. The majority (53.5%) of elevator-related fatalities were due to falls to lower level, of which nearly half (47%) were from more than 30 ft; the second most common cause of elevator related fatality was being caught in or compressed by an object or equipment.
