Picklesburgh is an annual pickle festival held in downtown Pittsburgh, PA, that celebrates the pickle's historical importance for the city. The event features pickle-themed food and snacks such as sauerbraten, pickled beet eggs, deep-fried pickles, dilly beans and sauerkraut pierogies, as well as cocktails with pickled ingredients. Attendees can compete in a pickle-juice drinking contest, demonstrations offer tips for canning and pickling at home, and visitors can take home pickle-themed memorabilia. Finding the event is easy: the giant Heinz pickle balloon flies overhead, a recognizable symbol of the company whose roots are in Pittsburgh. And, of course, the event is family-friendly, with a special "Lil Gherkins" play area.
