摘要

Each industry has unique technical hazards and mitigation strategies; however, general safety management can be shared in a way that all safety professionals and organizational management teams can use standard methodologies, processes and terminology. Of the SMS standards examined, no single standard necessarily stands out as better than the others. Each standard has elements that should be considered as "best practice" within the safety management landscape. A large number of similarities were discovered between the standards, but the study demonstrates a need for global harmonization of safety management across all industries and regions to advance the safety management profession. By promoting common terminology and standards, workers, managers and organizations can more easily move forward in providing safe and healthful working environments.
