I was excited when I saw the title of the Vantage Point article by Kory Pearson, "Transitioning From University to Industry" (PS/July 2020, pp. 54-55). A new passion of mine is attempting to influence college curricula because I see many newly minted safety professionals become disappointed in their first years of work. That disappointment, I think, comes from a misguided perception of the safety professional's job. Pearson hits the proverbial nail on the head when he says that today's safety profession "is less about enforcing regulations, programs and audits, and more about managing the different personalities one encounters in the workforce" (p. 54).
