Secondary chemical container labeling is necessary to reduce the risk of potential worker exposure due to accidental misuse of unknown chemicals or inadvertent mixing of incompatible chemicals, among other hazards. While the regulatory standard allows for some degree of variance regarding compliance to this standard, employers should not submit employees to unec-essary risk. If questions arise as to whether containers should be labeled, it is best to err on the side of caution and label the container. Worker education is key. As workers become aware of and understand the hazards of the chemicals they are using, the potential for workplace hazards will decrease.
