PSJ: Give us a brief overview of the Z16 standard. Gary: Z16 originated in the 1930s but as OSHA emerged in the 1970s, it fell out of favor. We are bringing it back to provide a new look at safety performance metrics and measurement. As our profession has evolved, we have recognized the need for more complex measurements than an incident rate or a lost-time incident rate. Those metrics really only offer a one-dimensional look at success in our field. With the Z16 standard, we are trying to expand those boundaries.
