Any safety professional's dream is to have a vibrantly thrumming safety culture filled with high performance and genuine enthusiasm. The author recently spoke to a colleague whose plant had received an award for 3 years of continuously and dramatically improved safety performance. She was beyond excited, stating that her plant was honored to receive the award. It is no coincidence that her level of enthusiasm about safety is tied to the plant's superior performance. While energy and effort alone do not guarantee a great safety record and culture, these are both strong leading indicators, and nothing generates energy like success. In general, high vitality makes high results more likely in safety, as in any endeavor.
