Since 1979, NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace has been the gold standard in worker protection from arc flash and shock risk. The 2018 edition of the standard emphasizes risk assessment and risk reduction considering the hierarchy of controls to mitigate these risks during energized work.
