When speaking on education, Robinson (2013) said, "The real role of leadership is climate control: Creating a climate of possibility. And if you do that people will rise to it and achieve things you did not anticipate and couldn't have expected." This provocative quote is as pertinent to leadership in safety as it is to that in education. In referring to Death Valley, Robinson describes the result of a rare 7-in. rainfall there in late 2004. The following spring Death Valley was carpeted with wildflow-ers that germinated from seeds lying just beneath the surface of the desert floor. "Death Valley isn't dead," he said. "It's dormant" (Robinson, 2013).
