To strengthen environmental protection while reducing regulatory burden on businesses, EPA is proposing two hazardous waste management rules. One rule aims to protect waterways by preventing more than 6,400 tons of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals that healthcare facilities flush down the sink or toilet. This would make drinking and surface water safer to ingest. In addition, this proposed rule would reduce the burden on healthcare workers and pharmacists by creating specific regulations.
