Phase in, phase out Late last year, Arkansas & Missouri Railroad Co. (A&M) took delivery of 25 new open-top gondolas. The 52-foot-long cars can carry a maximum load of 217,500 pounds and will haul iron or steel plates, scrap steel or other related products. The new cars will enable A&M to phase out 29 older gondolas that were slated for retirement in 2020. Snow patrol New York & Atlantic Railway (NY&A) faced cleanup work after Winter Storm Jonas struck New York City with several feet of snow in late January. The short line helped MTA Long Island Rail Road clear snow from tracks and reposition disabled equipment. Overall, NY&A locomotives traveled more than 1,000 miles and employees logged more than 800 work hours to remove snow from various tracks, according to the short line.
