摘要

New policies, procedures help Ferromex beat bottleneck blues at U.S.-Mexico border In NAFTA's wake, the bustle of U.S.Mexico border towns blows hot and cold. Trucks race to the border, where they come to an idle and wait — and, often, wait and wait — to clear customs. The lines may stretch for miles in both directions. For Mexico's newly privatized railroads, the border bottleneck represents an opportunity to capture freight transport marketshare, presuming they can take better care of customs business at the U.S.-Mexican border. At Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. de C.V. (Ferromex), they're beginning to do just that. The 6,486-mile Ferromex connects with both Union Pacific Railroad and Burlington Northern Santa Fe at Piedras Negras-Eagle Pass, and Ciudad Juarez-El Paso; and with UP at Nogales and Mexi-cali-Calexico.
