Editor: In a recent article, Graham Lanktree reported that 34% of local authorities missed their housebuilding targets in 2019 (Third of local authorities miss housing targets, MHCLG data shows', PropertyWeek.com), While collectively, local authorities surpassed their targets to build 247,000 homes, this analysis showed that there was still a long way to go towards meeting the government's target of 300,000 homes a year by 2025. This is yet another example of the need to draw on a diverse combination of public and private investment to address the UK's housing crisis.
