Isagani A. Lachica first came to PSSC to answer an ad that we had issued for an assistant in the Technical Services and Information Section. Like most of those who applied for the position, Gani, as he was fondly called, had finished an undergraduate degree (Public Administration, University of the Philippines-Diliman) and was enrolled in graduate studies (Sociology, UP- Diliman). I interviewed him for the job, and I felt that he had the qualities that we were looking for (i.e., a keen interest in reading and a patient nature in as much as he would be typo-editing materials for publication, and the skills for technical assistance in backstopping committees and public fora). After we hired him, Gani settled into his new job with relative ease, winning the rest of the staff with his friendly and gentle ways.rnHe was a conscientious and responsible worker. Many times, I would end a working day with him still at his desk, reading and marking the last few pages of a manuscript so corrections could be finalized the following morning without delay.
