Eight graduate students were awarded research grants under the 2007 Research Award Program. The grant is intended to help graduate students in the social sciences to finish their thesis or dissertation work. The six grantees are PhD candidates from De La Salle University, University of the Philippines-Diliman and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. Two grantees are MA students from UP Diliman and Ateneo de Manila University.rnJose Cristina Parina (PhD Linguistics, De La Salle University) will study "Pronoun Use and Alternation of Urban Housekeepers to Exhibit Power and Politeness in the Filipino Household." Parina aims to examine how house helpers use second person pronouns such as ikaw/ka, mo, iyo, kayo, inyo, ninyo in interacting with members of the household.
