The new Stockholm Metro car has been given the fitting and futuristic project name of Car 2000. It goes without saying that the future orientation can be seen in the actual vehicle concept - quiet, comfortable and reliable . However, the purchasing and design process has also been conducted in a new and pioneering fashion. Those of us who developed the new metro car took a step into the future several years before the first drawings began to take shape on the drawing-board. This article describes the entire process -from the analysis of requirements to the delivery of the first cars at the beginning of 1997.
