As is now well documented, the last twenty years have seen dramatic growth in the Asia Pacific region, both in economic terms and in population. The success of Japan has been followed by the much smaller but exceptional performance of Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan. Although starting later, other countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia are demonstrating growth rates which will lead to similar results in the future. Perhaps most important of all is the vast potential in China, parts of which are already demonstrating the same pattern of growth.%Es ist nun dokumentarisch erwiesen, daß die asiatisch-pazifische Region in den letzten zwanzig Jahren ein dramatisches Wirtschafts- und Bevölkerungswachstum erfahren hat. Dem Erfolg Japans schloß sich die mengenmäßig geringere, aber außergewöhnliche Entwicklung Singapurs, Hongkongs, Südkoreas und Taiwans an. Auch die Spätstarter wie Malaysia, Thailand und Indonesien weisen Wachstumsraten auf, die über kurz oder lang zu ähnlichen Ergebnissen führen werden. Am bedeutendsten von allen ist aber das ungeheure Potential Chinas, und in einigen Provinzen ist das gleiche Wachstumsmuster bereits zu beobachten.
