We studied the thermomechanical and chemithermomechanical pulping of blue-stained and sound lodgepole pine chips and the bleaching of the pulps produced.Blue stain had no obvious effect on specific energy requirement,and no effect on sheet density,tensile index or Sheffield roughness.The blue-stained TMP and CTMP both responded poorly to hydrosulphite bleaching.The blue-stained TMP responded to alkaline peroxide bleaching as well as the sound TMP at high peroxide charges,and the blue-stained CTMP responded to alkaline peroxide bleaching better than the sound CTMP.
