Spanish fine and speciality paper group Lecta plans to utilise solar power at its woodfree coated paper mill Condat mill in France and has announced construction of a solar thermal plant. Solar collectors spread over 1.4 ha will generate 3,900 MW per year which will be supplied to the paper mill. Aside from becoming more environment friendly, Lecta especially aims to reduce natural gas consumption.The project is the largest solarthermal project in France, the company explains. Since it promotes use of renewable energies, French government agency for environment and energy ADEME will bear 65% of the project costs. The plant is scheduled to be built and commissioned by autumn this year.
