Brown kraftliner prices in Germany have been left largely untouched in July, with only a few stragglers lowering their prices. August is not thought to have any appreciable movement in prices in store. Some manufacturers said they had agreed to keep prices unchanged in July and August in one go.The market for cores and coreboard has continued to slow, something that is piquing customers'interest in securing price cuts. A fine line between discipline and compromises dictates the situation facing suppliers of wood-free uncoated paper at the moment. Both paper manufacturers and merchants are being hit hard by the effects of persistently slow demand for weeks and months now. Insiders in Germany said that a pronounced summer lull has accelerated the structural decline in demand. Paper buyers are also complaining of high prices on the whole and seeking price cuts, especially for copy paper and offset reels.
