Brazilian pulp and paper producer Suzano Papel e Celulose intends to enterthe market for sanitary paper. In mid-January the group ordered its first two tissue lines worth $58m in total. One of them is to be installed at the Imperatriz mill in the Brazilian state of Maranhao and to be started up in the third quarter of 2017, while the second is to be commissioned at the Mucuri plant in the state of Bahia in the fourth quarter of 2017. Each of the lines is said to offer a capacity of 60,000 tpy. The company explained that both machines would produce jumbo rolls to be sold to Brazilian toilet paper manufacturers for conversion in the north-eastern part of Brazil. Lastly the country's annual consumption totalled 800,000 tpy. Suzano first announced its plans regarding tissue in November last year. The group earmarked an in- vestment total of BRL425m (around €95m) for the project. To date Suzano has been producing uncoa-ted printing and copy paper, board and market pulp.
