In order to efficiently integrate renewable energies into the power grid, it becomes increasingly important to manage demand of industrial users. However, 70% of Germany's industrial locations fail to use the enormous potential offered by load control. This is one of the results of a study entitled "Identification and realisation of economic potential for demand-side integration in Germany's industry" issued by the Institute for Energy Economics and Rational Use of Energy (Institut fur Ener-giewirtschaft und Rationelle Energieanwendung - IER) at the University of Stuttgart together with Stadtwerke-Kooperation Trianel, a consortium of municipal utilities. The study, which is only available in German, analyses more than 200 locations of industry for their economic potential for demand side integration (DSI), no matter if their potential is used or as yet unused.
