Spanish paper and packaging manufacturer Europac has opened its new corrugated packaging facility near the port city of Tangiers in Morocco. The official opening took place on 19 January in the presence of the group's chief executive, Jose Miguel Isidro. The company has not disclosed when production started up. Europac Packaging Med, as the Moroccan subsidiary of Europac is called, operates a corrugator and three converting lines for corrugated boxes. The company says the facility has a production capacity of 100 million m~2.114 people are to be directly employed at the factory. Europac's decision to invest €30m in a packaging plant in Morocco is said to rest on good economic growth and the great significance of industry and agriculture for the country's economic development, said the company in a press release issued at the official opening ceremony. It was said that current growth forecasts are assuming a 5% increase in GDP this year. Here, industry and agriculture, the two areas in which Europac's main customers operate, produce more than 50% of Morocco's gross domestic product.
