On the European pulp market, the new year has started just as 2015 ended. It began to emerge in mid-January that negotiations on new one-month contracts are going to be characterised by calls for price cuts again.The pressure on hardwood pulp sellers is therefore likely to increase, and softwood pulp prices are going to reach rock-bottom very soon, say market players. Demand from European paper manufacturers is normal for the first month of the year, say pulp suppliers. After there had been stoppages of paper and board machines by the day and week from Christmas to the beginning of January, the majority of facilities have meanwhile resumed operation in full. Call-offs in Europe are said to be at a satisfactory level.
