Swedish paper producer SCA delivered a positive performance in 2013. Group revenues climbed 4% to SEK89.02bn (2012:85.41 bn), while the operating profit leapt 15% to SEK9.93bn (8.65bn). Pre-tax profit was 21% higher than 2012 at SE-K8.93bn (7.38bn), whereas the net profit (excluding exceptional items) fell by 12 % to SEK6.39bn (7.26bn). SCA further strengthened its position in emerging countries in 2013, according to its annual report. The group completed its takeover offer for Chinese tissue producer Vinda during the fourth quarter of the year. SCA now holds the majority stake of 51.4% in this firm. In April 2013, SCA sold its SC paper mill in Laakirchen to Austrian company Heinzel Holding as part of an initiative to focus on hygiene paper operations. Assets were also divested in the second quarter to comply with the conditions imposed by EU competition authorities in order for SCA to acquire Georgia-Pacific's European tissue business.
