The European Commission (EC) has approved under the EU merger regulation the announced merger of Chesapeake and Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS). The concentration of businesses of the two packaging manufacturers was examined under a simplified review procedure and was declared "compatible with the internal market." Although both companies are active in the manufacture and sale of secondary paper-based packaging solutions, the competition authorities say they have only identified minor overlaps between the business activities of the respective companies and therefore concluded that the merger would not raise any competition concerns.
