In an environment shaped by stagnating volumes and considerably fiercer competition in the European market, the Mayr-Melnhof group registered a regressive operating result in the first quarter of 2013.The figure was €4.8m or 11 % below the level of the same period last year and stood at €38.4m. According to the group, this reduction was due solely to board production as its folding carton business improved results year-on-year. A reduction in volume caused by the conversion of a key unit at the Neuss board mill and lower average prices are being quoted as major reasons for the margin reduction at MM Karton.
