SCA is planning to close its Oughtibridge mill in the UK at the beginning of 2015. The company announced on 22 May that it had started consultation with staff of the former Georgia Pacific site. The plant converts tissue parent reels into paper hand towels, wiper rolls and toilet paper. After the acquisition of Georgia Pacific's European tissue business last year, SCA has proposed large-scale restructuring measures. The company announced plans to close the Oughtibridge site and subsequently relocate some of the converting lines to another SCA facility at Skelmersdale in Lancashire and move the logistics operation to Ashton-in-Makerfield. The plans, if carried out, would impact 161 jobs.
