Agreements between negotiating partners on terms of supply and prices for standard newsprint in 2013 appear out of reach. Their ideas are too far apart. However, first agreements are on the horizon for improved newsprint and heatset grades, and it is expected that major contracts will be signed before Christmas. The projected major cuts to corrugated case material did not materialise. In light of good load rates, prices in December often saw lateral price movement despite price cuts to recovered paper prices. The reductions reportedly amounted to between €2 and €5/t. There have been no more price changes in the kraft sack paper segment in the fourth quarter. Core board prices, however, have seen marginal adjustments. Prices for cartonboard largely remained stable in December even though they have slightly decreased on an overall basis over the recent months.
