On June 15, 2010 Finnish Stora Enso Timber Oy announced that it intends to curtail sawn timber production due to incessantly rising log procurement costs at its Finnish Kitee, Uimaharju, Varkaus and Honkalahti sawmills. The temporary lay-offs, which would affect around 500 employees in total, would take place between 1 September and 31 December 2010. The four mills concerned produce sawn timber and offer an annual capacity of around 1.19 million m~3 altogether.
