Severnside Recycling, the recovered paper subsidiary of DS Smith plc, has announced plans to work with organic waste specialist Envar to seek out new end uses for wastes from the paper recycling and paper making processes. Specifically, de-inked paper sludge is to be recycled as animal bedding, land restoration and agricultural fertiliser. Under the terms of the agreement, Envar is to handle 26,000 tonnes of the material generated at the Hollins Mill in Darwen, Blackburn, which is owned by the St. Regis company, another DS Smith subsidiary.
