There is something special about being a modeller. It's in your DNA. A modeller is a miniature engineer, a scavenger, a hoarder, an innovator and a craftsman. An aeromodeller also loves aircraft and aircraft come in all shapes and sizes and from a variety of historical eras. Thus scale modelling is something special. Even if not building a scale model most modellers try and make their creations look like a real aircraft, so aircraft museums hold a special place for all aircraft lovers and especially modellers. One of the best collections anywhere is that owned by the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, USA. Their facility in Jefferson Drive, Washington DC can hold only a small part of their collection, but a $66 million grant from Budapest born American businessman Steven F Udvar-Hazy enabled them to build a facility at Dulles Airport that houses a lot more and is growing. Many of these aircraft are unique or extremely rare examples, and many of the more common types have a significant history. Most are in pristine condition while some have significant original weathering. All are beautifully displayed.
