Outside of warbirds and jets the Tiger Moth is probably one of the most iconic British aircraft of all time and certainly one of the most recognised biplanes in the world. Developed from the DH60 Gipsy Moth as a trainer for the RAF in the 1930s the Tiger Moth, or DH82, remained in service with the RAF from the 1930s until the early 1950s as a primary trainer. Over 7,000 were built in the UK, with many more built overseas. It was adopted by many air forces as a primary trainer where its low maintenance requirements and good flying characteristics made it a good aircraft to learn basic aerobatics on; having ailerons on the lower wing only made rolling manoeuvres a leisurely affair that required the pilot to fly the aircraft rather than just bang the stick over.
