It was just over 80-years ago, on 13th September 1929, a British aircraft rndesigned by R.J Mitchell, built by Supermarine in Southampton and powered by a Rolls Royce engine, won the most coveted rnair race prize of all time - the Schneider Trophy. Two years later an improved version of this aircraft and engine went on to claim the Trophy again and retain it forever as a symbol of pride and achievement in our aircraft industry.rnThis 2-CD audio book tells the story of the twelve contests, founded by a Frenchman - Jacques Schneider - whose vision of building seaplanes and flying boats capable of carrying passengers and cargoes all around the world, would eventually lead to the design of the arguably best-known icon in aviation - the Spitfire.
