JetPower is the World's premier event for model turbines, started only five years ago by Winfried 'Winnie' Ohlgart, a long time enthusiastic supporter of model jet flying. Winnie is currently Chairman of the World Jet Masters. The JetPower event is sited at Bad Neuenahr in the district of Ahrweiler, near to Koln. The event uses a small airstrip on the top of a small hill. The sides of the hill (part of the Ahr Valley) are surrounded by vines and the area is famous for its velvety-red Pinot Noir wines, and is also the home of the well-known 'Apollinaris' mineral water. In fact at the time of year that JetPower is held there are celebrations of the year's grape harvest. All hotels in the surrounding area are always heavily booked, so anyone wishing to go should try and book several months in advance. The event is simply huge, it gets bigger each year and is the major place for traders to attend and announce their latest products. There are two vast mobile tent-like structures that are large enough to house not only the traders but also the vast crowd should it rain. Last year I asked how many people had passed through the gates on the Saturday and was informed it was 12,000.
