Temora, in south west New South Wales has the reputation as the State's "friendliest town", where country hospitality rings true. In the heart of the NSW agricultural belt, it is known for its internationally acclaimed Aviation Museum, which contains, amongst others, Australia's oldest still flying Tiger Moth, two Spitfires, and the world's only flying Lockheed Hudson and Gloster Meteor F.8. All aircraft are airworthy and flown on a number of weekends during the year. The museum is on the site of the No.10 Elementary Flying Training School, part of the Empire Air Training Scheme, and which at one stage had a hundred Tiger Moths on strength. The Museum fronts onto one of the three sealed runways, giving its aircraft easy access to the flight line. Being more or less centrally situated between Melbourne (541 km) and Sydney (418 km and somewhat further away from two other State capitalsrn(Adelaide, 957 km) and Brisbane, (1175 km), this appeared to be an ideal spot to hold the first American style 'Top Gun' event in Australia, which was named The Temora Invitational Scale Classic (TISC).
