Last time saw the progress of the Wyvern from the drawing, board to the main airframe being completed with just the finishing touches and mechanical fittings to be added. This time we see the fitting of the undercarriage and working through to the final finish and flying. I designed and fabricated the undercarriage myself by first studying pictures of the full sized aircraft then drawing the individual parts. The main undercarriage leg consists of four main parts: The front strut including the wheel and axle, the rear strut containing the shock spring, and the upper and lower forks. Both the front and rear struts were machined from 1.5" square 6061-T6 bar stock aluminum. The fork pieces are 2024-T6 aluminum for superior strength. Scale details such as brake lines, a step, and the hydraulic actuator were added later and give the gear a convincing scale look.
