In the first part of this series we looked at the development and construction of the fuselage and wings. Now we take a look at the control surfaces and retracts. After flipping the complete assembly inverted, it was carefully re-jigged on the board using balsa cradles and packers to maintain the washout. First job was to remove all traces of glue dribbles in corners that always occur when building a traditional wing structure. Ribs were levelled, jig tabs removed, and the whole panel was generally given a good tidy up before further work was carried out. Certain stringers could not be fitted to the underside whilst the wing was upright, so these went in first, followed by the underside st/st joining plates. Completion of the aileron hinging and construction of the flaps followed.
