It's that time of year again, when last year's models get pulled from the workshop and fettled into some sort of flyable condition. With the evenings drawing out and the weather improving after the trials and tribulations of winter, actually flying your model aeroplanes on a semi regular basis rather than just reading about them will be back on the agenda, and about time too! Actually I amuse myself with indoor flying out of season, which keeps the blood flowing to the fingers and sharpens the brain a tad, but not everyone has the inclination, or indeed the venue to indulge. So, if you are fettling last year's models (or even those from the year before) then you will need to invoke a bit of maintenance and pre- paredness if your pride and joy isn't to meet an untimely end before the flying season even begins to get into its stride. The obvious cycling and charging of batteries is the first step to readiness of course but for this column, engines are our prime concern.
