There was a time when aeromodelling 'dope-heads' experimented with every potentially explosive, toxic liquid and water-thin oil in search of a 'power elixir' for their engines. The less adventurous simply mixed castor oil with methanol, or with paraffin and ether to make diesel fuel. Most, however, just purchased glow or diesel fuel. Then, for the average flyer, things were fairly straight! Nowadays, there's a fuel 'cocktail' for every need and many model flyers rather than traditional aeromodellers. The 'new breed' demand trouble-free, clean operation of their engines, and quality, commercial fuels are tailored to meet the requirement. You can still blend your own fuel, of course, but quality model engine oils are far more sophisticated than you can imagine. So, don't be too tempted to reach for two-stroke bike oil!
