We have been made aware of the threat of asteroids that make close passes at Earth. Public and private watchdog agencies continue to keep an eye on the hundreds of such known bolides, and thousands more are suspected that come in all sizes and shapes. It's still unclear what measures might be taken to avoid a catastrophic collision with our. planet, other than those with which we've been entertained in science fiction flicks in recent days.
