CaF_2 crystals doped with the rare earth fluoride (REF_3) ErF_3 and TbF_3 were grown using the Bridgman- Stockbarger technique. Their thermoluminescence (TL) and phosphorescence properties were examined and their applicability As TL detectors in photon and mixed neutron-photon beams was tested. Measurements showed that only CaF_2:TbF_3 crystals are Suitable for clinical photon and neutron dosimetry. A comparison with TLD-300 is given.
